Cochlear Implant Events in October with attachment

For one week in October, DePaul School for Hearing and Speech is hosting Professor Jim Patrick, world-renowned scientist and co-creator of the multi-channel cochlear implant.  DePaul invited Jim to Pittsburgh to give professionals and families the opportunity to meet this amazing man whose work has dramatically changed the lives of over 200,000 individuals with hearing loss around the globe.

 

Unlocking the World of Sound & Speech: A Celebration of the Cochlear Implant

Tuesday, October 26, 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Rangos Conference Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

 

At this family-friendly reception you will have the opportunity to hear from Professor Patrick about the development of the multi-channel cochlear implant.  Plus, during a panel discussion, cochlear implant recipients will share their stories. This evening will be especially meaningful for children and adults who wear cochlear implants and the professionals who work with them. WTAE TV’s Sally Wiggin will emcee this event co-sponsored and hosted by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

 

The Bionic Ear: The Creation & Commercial Development of the Multi-Channel Cochlear Implant

Thursday, October 28, 4:00 – 5:00 pm

Scaife Hall Auditorium, University of Pittsburgh

 

At this lecture, Professor Patrick will review the timeline – from concept to release – of the multi-channel cochlear implant and will discuss recent advancements in biomedical engineering and bionics.  This event is hosted by the Department of Bioengineering, Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh.
